Gibson’s Catalog Y of 1937 declared that the mandolin-banjo was “a necessity in every banjo band for lead or obbligato” and that the style 00 mandolin-banjo provided “at last. . . a low priced mandolin banjo made by Gibson and with all Gibson features.”
#EG-4421 (see Gibson banjo serial numbers vs. factory order numbers) was shipped to the New York Band Instrument Company on May 5, 1939 along with MB-00 #EG-4425. It shows playing wear but remains in largely original condition with the exception of one missing bracket and missing fingerboard binding.
