Gibson UB-1 #DG-4888

The ukulele-banjo, or UB, was one of the most popular banjo-family instruments produced by Gibson in the years before World War II.  This UB-1 was shipped to H. Polliack and Co., Ltd., Gibson’s leading prewar dealer in South Africa, on May 11, 1939.  The serial number (see Gibson banjo serial numbers vs. factory order numbers) is stamped on the back of the peghead along with the “Made in the U.S.A.” stamp typically seen on export instruments; the inside of the rim bears both a “Made in U.S.A.” label and the yellow and black label of Polliack.
